- plus a series of lectures, readings, and concerts every Wednesday evening throughout August.
The exhibition has been organised by Vibe Bredahl, Sophie Hjerl and Malene Hartmann, all three of whom have exhibited in Syria as well as many places in Denmark and abroad. They are all graduates of the Royal Danish Art Academy. The exhibition’s Syrian organiser is the photographer Issa Touma, who owns and runs the gallery ”Le Pont” in Aleppo, Syrien.
At Images of Syria Vibe Bredahl showed the Syrian component of her project Embroidery of the Middle East, which is a pictorial description/narrative from the Middle East. The project started in 2001 when Bredahl traveled to Syria and asked people to embroider stories on the doll. The doll came to embody an archetypal figure traveling though and affected by the different communities and regions of the Middle East.
In addition to the exhibition, the project includes four evenings that focus on art (August 9th), literature (August 16th), history (August 23rd) and music (August 30th). Combined with the exhibition, these thought-provoking evenings are intended to give the public a clear glimpse into Syrian art and culture, and to foster room for reflection and dialogue on the cultural, linguistic, religious and geographic differences between the West and the Middle East.
