Often appearing in the guise of sculptural replicas of recognisable motifs and tropes we already know from her pictorial universe, i.e. from her collages and drawings, Bredahl’s various spatial work has succeeded in creating a very direct and dynamic relation between the two. In a similar way, we may find the details, markings, shapes and shades of Bredahl’s objects drifting from their status within the reality of the physical world to the world of imagination and narrative, held fast by the illusive flatness of form, line and colour on paper. Bredahl’s sculptural work can be seen as reminiscent of objects of memento mori (remember you will die), a specific vocabulary of items and artefacts both questioning and referencing human mortality as well as thoughts of recurrence, resurrection and the migration of the soul.
